Delta Police Nab Two Over Failed Kidnap Attempt

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected kidnappers linked to a failed abduction attempt in Edjekota-OgorDelta Police Nab Two Over Failed Kidnap Attempt, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Iliyasu Hassan, 16, and Idris Abdulkarim, 32, were apprehended on June 22 after reportedly emerging from a nearby forest to purchase food and medication.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said in a statement on Thursday that officers of the Ughelli ‘A’ Division, working with members of the Edjekota-Ogor Vigilante Group, carried out the arrest.

Edafe disclosed that a victim of an earlier kidnapping incident positively identified the suspects as members of the gang that attacked him.

He said the suspects remained in police custody while investigations continued.

According to him, efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang and recover weapons used in their operations.

In a separate operation, police operatives attached to the Ugborikoko Division arrested two suspects over an attempted robbery incident reported on June 23.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects unlawfully entered a residential compound but fled after noticing the occupants were at home.

Edafe said vigilant residents quickly apprehended the suspect and his accomplice before handing them over to the police.

Acting on intelligence obtained during interrogation, detectives searched the suspects’ residence and recovered a locally made pistol hidden inside a wardrobe.

The suspects are currently being investigated for possible links to other criminal activities in the state.

Commending residents for their vigilance, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.

He assured residents of the command’s commitment to tackling crime and safeguarding lives and property across Delta State.
