NGO harps on agricultural innovation for women

By Josephine Omodior
Women have been advised to adopt modern agricultural technology in processing farm produce for improved productivity.
The advice was given at a summit tagged “ Innovate for Change”, held on Monday (23/6/19), at Asaba.
The program was organized by Working Fingers Initiative International ( WOFII) with support from Partnership Initiative in Niger Delta ( PIND) for the enlightenment of women on new techniques of processing farm products and to commemorate the 2019 widows day celebration.
Speaking during the event, the Director of WOFII explained that women are often prevented from reaching their full potential in the agricultural sector because of crude processing techniques which result to poor quality and quantity of farm products.
Dr Jewo however encouraged participants to always avail themselves the opportunity to learn and adopt new ideas for positive changes in their activities.
Earlier, in her remarks, HRM, Omu Anioma, Obi Martha Dunkwu opined that education is the only means of achieving innovation for women.
She said “ in planning for innovation, a woman must acquire good education. Start from yourself because you can not give what you do not have”.
While stressing the role of the media in achieving agricultural innovation, the chairperson of National Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ), Delta State chapter, Comrade Pat Gbemudu, observed that the creation of awareness is major tool for increasing patronage.
Fabrics were later presented to widows that attended the occasion.
Also present at the event are representatives from the State Ministry of Women Affairs, Delta state Ministry of Agriculture and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC).
