The Youth wing of the Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) and Coalition of Delta State Coalition of Civil Societies, NGOs have said that they never embark on “End SARS” agitation across the country.

The National Youth President of Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) worldwide, Comrade Kelly Efemena Umukoro disclosed this to newsmen at Asaba.

Comrade Umukoro who was flanked by the Public Relations Officer of Delta State Coalition of Civil Societies, NGOs and media on Covid-19 Taskforce, Victor Ojei, said that the people of Urhobo kingdom are not known to be violent.

He explained that the security situation in Ughelli North Local Government Area has deteriorated since the protest started.

The youth President however condemned the actions of the protesters stressing that their youthful energy should be used to demand better governance.
He said, “ this protest started from my jurisdiction, which is Ughelli North. As Urhobo people, we are not known to be violent. We are not known to be criminals.

“ I condemn this protest in totality. What we should be clamoring for now is reform SARS or to reform the entire police structure. That is what we should be calling for.

“ it is quite unfortunate that our youths have decided to use their energy wrongly.
“ if we channel this energy we are using in this ‘ End SARS’ protests, to fight against bad governance, bad roads, increase in electricity tariff , I think it will be quite better off.

“ you cannot use the error of one police man to destroy others. Even the SARS we are talking about have recorded success stories. We still have police men with integrity, that are honest and brave.”

He however commiserated with the Police on the death of the officer who lost his life in course of the end SARS protest at Ughelli.

On his part, the Public Relations Officer Ojei, said that dialogue is better than protest.

He said ,” I think we should not be saying end SARS. We should be saying end corruption, end police brutality. If you say we should ‘EndSARS’, if you say we should sack these police men, are you going to carry their and start security work?
“ Do you know the risk these men take daily to protect us? We know there are bad police officers but the truth is that there are also good men of the Nigerian Police that I have been working with.

“ the truth is that there are some hoodlums and criminals out there that are waiting to hijack the protest.

“ We must not go out to the street to get result. We can sit down with these police men and the Commissioner of police on a round table and resolve it”.
