The Chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government Council, Hon. Joan Governor, has called on the Delta State Government and well-meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of the people of Ndokwa East as flood cuts off Aboh Road and Kwale-Ashaka Road from the state.
He stated this yesterday at Ashaka after receiving a report on the flood situation from a committee set up by the council on flood management.
The chairman stated that, as a rescue measure, he had provided boats for the evacuation of those still stranded in the various towns.
According to the chairman, hundreds of farmlands and houses had been submerged by the flood, listing Onyia, Aboh, Akarai, Utchi, Abala, Onuabor and Umuti as worse hit.
The chairman reported that some residents whose belongings could not be accommodated in the boats refused to come out while other feared that thieves would come for their belongings when they had been evacuated.
Hon. Joan Governor however thanked the Catholic and Anglican churches for providing bags of cloth and foodstuff to flood victims while lamenting that the flood had become a yearly occurrence, bringing about the destruction of farmland.
The chairman admonished residents in the affected communities to value life more than property, urging them to join the boats to come out of the flooded areas, warning that the ravaging would be similar to that of 2012.
